Is Liposuction Permanent?

For those people who exercise regularly, unwanted body fat can still be an issue. Localized fat deposits can resist even the best diet and exercise plans. Fortunately there are cosmetic procedures available that can help target these troublesome fat deposits. Patients always wonder: Is fat removal permanent? When it comes to liposuction, the answer is yes!

According to a study done by the Swanson Center in Leawood, Kansas, there is no evidence of fat regrowth following a liposuction procedure. Using before and after photos as well as computer-assisted body measurements Dr. Eric Swanson, MD evaluated 301 cases in 294 patients who had liposuction procedures (either by itself or in conjunction with an abdominoplasty).

The results showed no difference after a year in fat removal patients compared to the control group. This study confirms that liposuction and abdominoplasty procedures are a long-term solution to troubling fat deposits.

This is good news for patients who have had liposuction or abdominoplasty procedures and those considering them. While liposuction and abdominoplasty are not designed as a substitute for weight loss, they are wonderful tools for people to sculpt those trouble areas resistant to diet and exercise.

As with any plastic surgery procedure, finding out if a liposuction or abdominoplasty would be right for you requires a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon like ours at Gardens Plastic Surgery. We spend time with each patient and discuss their individual aesthetic goals and the various options available to help each client achieve those goals. The decision to move forward with a cosmetic procedure is a big step and should be taken with a board certified plastic surgeon.

This new study from the Swanson Center is great news for liposuction and abdominoplasty patients, past and present. If you are a future or potential patient, then now is the time to schedule your consultation with Gardens Plastic Surgery.
