The Long-Lasting Benefits of a Facelift

One of the biggest concerns of patients who are undergoing a cosmetic procedure is how permanent the solution or treatment will be. This rings particularly true when it comes to facial rejuvenation procedures such as face and brow lifts. While there is no miracle that can completely stop the effects of aging, a recent study shows great long-term results for people who have undergone facelift surgery.

British and Scottish researchers looked at patients who had undergone facelift procedures, and the results were no less than excellent. More than five years after facelift surgery, 75% of patients still looked younger than they did prior to having surgery. That is 3 out of 4 people.

While some areas of the face showed signs of aging, overall the benefits from facelift surgery have proven to be long-lasting. The researchers evaluated the face, using a variety of assessments, to get their results. The key areas that they evaluated were:

  • Objective measurements such as the height of the jowls, the angle in association with the neck, etc.
  • Subjective assessments of focal areas such as the lines that extend from the mouth, nose, and chin.
  • Overall subjective assessment, or a global score, of a patient’s appearance.

These results are scheduled to be published by the well respected Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal.

Again, there is no permanent “Fountain of Youth” when it comes to cosmetic surgery, but the results of this study show that there are excellent long-term benefits to facelift surgery for those people looking to combat the signs of aging.

There are many facial rejuvenation procedures, surgical and non-invasive, available to patients today. As the demand for cosmetic surgery continues to rise, cosmetic surgeons have developed more and more techniques and approaches are being developed every day. Whether a patient seeks out a localized treatment or if they are looking for a full facial refresher, there are options to suit every need.
